Here are some tips for keeping your pet safe, while enjoying the winter weather together!
- A good diet during the cold months is very important for dogs and cats, especially if they spend time outside. Their bodies will burn extra calories trying to stay warm, so increasing their calories and providing a high-quality food will help. Careful not to overfeed!
- In extreme weather, it’s best to keep your pet indoors. When outdoors, make sure they have adequate shelter and plenty of fresh water.
- Smaller and older pets can be given extra protection (and style!) with sweaters or coats.
- If you live in an area where rock salt is used to melt snow, be sure to wipe your pet’s feet to avoid irritation to the pads and their mouths (in case they lick their paws).
- Watch out for neighbors pets – if you encounter a pet left in the cold, let the owner know you’re concerned. Many people are unaware of the dangers cold weather poses. Remember, if it’s too cold for you, it’s probably too cold for them!
Enjoy the cold while you can – Spring is on the way!!! 🌻
